Daejeon’s Studio Cube Virtual Studio has officially opened.
This studio has been built as the largest and highest-specification facility of its kind in Korea, equipped with a high-performance virtual production infrastructure capable of producing content based on In-Camera Visual Effects (ICVFX)—the standard for Hollywood blockbuster productions.
By providing a production environment that meets global standards in both visual quality and efficiency, the studio is expected to significantly enhance the competitiveness of domestic production companies.
This project was carried out as part of the Virtual Production Public Studio Development Program, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), with the aim of making advanced production environments accessible to a broad range of creators.
In collaboration with the project’s lead organization, MBC C&I, LIVE-LAB was responsible for the media server and tracking system components, completing a new virtual production studio at Daejeon Studio Cube.
Based on PIXERA media servers and Stage Precision software, LIVE-LAB played a key role in integrating core virtual production technologies, including precise synchronization between cameras, LED walls, and virtual content, as well as distortion correction.
Most notably, the project’s greatest achievement lies in the adoption of ST 2110, a high-speed, network-based video transmission and reception technology, to build the world’s first network-based virtual production studio. While this approach had long been discussed only as a theoretical possibility, it had never before been implemented in a real studio environment. Through joint R&D with the PIXERA headquarters, LIVE-LAB successfully became the first in the world to validate and deploy this technology in practice.
Through this project, LIVE-LAB, in collaboration with PIXERA HQ, established a comprehensive technical foundation required to validate next-generation virtual production workflows, including ST 2110, GPU Direct, and PTP.
These technological innovations present a new direction for future virtual production studio design and will help position Daejeon Studio Cube as a global reference site for next-generation virtual production technologies.
We hope that this achievement will stand as a proud milestone for Korea’s technological capabilities and the advancement of its visual content industry.
